The Bigs
Zonk is an 18 year old Zonkey, who arrived at our Rescue in 2017. He lived at an American zoo and was rescued from a kill pen by a family in Pennsylvania. He was ultimately surrendered to IHERC, where he has become quite the celebrity! He is stunningly handsome, mischievous, playful, and always curious about everything! Zonk, Zelda and Flynn are best friends.

Zelda is a 16 year old Zonkey, who arrived at our rescue in 2017. She lived at an American zoo and was rescued from a kill pen in New Jersey. Zelda was ultimately surrendered to IHERC where she found her soul mate, Zonk, who joined our herd the same year. Zelda is shy and sweet, and in the winter her coat becomes beautifully dappled red.

Flynn is a 12 year old Chestnut, Canadian Sport Horse. He was surrendered to us dangerously underweight and had sustained a hip fracture. He has gained 250 pounds, and with ongoing care, manages to really enjoy life. He is a tall, gorgeous, playful, mischievous character who flirts with our mini mares to their delight.

Pearl is an 18 year old Bay, Standardbred, former pacer. She retired from racing to become a brood mare and had at least one baby. She then fell into the hands of a meat buyer where she sustained a serious injury to one of her hind legs. A good soul from PEI rescued her and she was surrendered to us. Pearl is our stunning large and in charge lead mare of the Bigs.

Odie is an 12 year old, blue-eyed Paint/Medicine Hat. He was surrendered in 2017 with life threatening health conditions as well as very limited hearing. Now thriving with continuous care - he is pure magic! We call him our unicorn. Odie is affectionate, sweet, playful, intuitive, and he finds a special place in the hearts of all who meet him.

The Littles
Thunder is an 8 year old Red Roan, miniature mare. Her mother came to our rescue pregnant, and she was born during a summer storm. She is gentle, beautiful and sweet, and as lead mare is always watching the herd to keep order. She is Stormy’s mother.

Sunny is a 16 year old Buckskin, miniature mare who came to our rescue in 2015. She was purchased to be company for a newly rescued miniature horse. Sunny is confident, sweet, sometimes sassy, and lights up when handsome Flynn reaches over into the mini paddock to give her a little bum nibble. Sunny is Rain’s mother.

Raine is a 4 year old, blue-eyed Cremello, miniature mare. Her mother Sunny became pregnant as a result of a cryptorchid gelding joining our herd. Raine was rejected by her mother shortly after birth, bottle fed in the barn for a few days, and then successfully introduced and accepted by Thunder, who was nursing Stormy. Raine is dainty, sweet, affectionate, and adores her half sister Stormy.

Ella is a 14 year old Dark Bay miniature mare. She arrived at our rescue in 2015, was adopted in 2016 and recently was surrendered back to us in 2025. She is pretty, confident, sassy, sweet, and immediately asserted herself as lead mare. She loves to flirt with Flynn at the fence, asking for a butt nibble and then squeals and kicks up her heels with seeming joy.

Shorty, aka Squirt is a 10 year old, handsome, black, miniature gelding who was purchased as a yearling to be company for another miniature horse at our rescue. He is spunky, sometimes sassy and is a momma’s boy. When a new large horse arrives and is initially settling in, Squirt (our smallest) quickly and comically communicates that he is mighty and will protect his mini mares.

Stormy is a 4 year old, brown-eyed Cremello, miniature mare. Her mother, Thunder, became pregnant as a result of a cryptorchid gelding joining our herd. She is our resident diva who exudes confidence, is sweet and knows her beauty. Stormy loves to play with Raine, her half-sister and loves to be the center of attention.

Rain is a 23 year old chestnut Pony mare. She was rescued from Big Tancook Island in 2025 with untreated life-threatening illnesses as well as being dangerously malnourished. She is receiving palliative care and has improved significantly. She is very sweet, beautiful, and is enjoying having horse companions and lots of love. We affectionately call her Big Rain because we have another Raine, the blue-eyed miniature horse.

Hoops is a 20 year old black Miniature Jenny. She was rescued by a family and then came to live at IHERC. She struggles with insulin resistance and is prone to laminitis, which is being controlled with diet. Hoops is a gentle, sweet, loving, agreeable girl. She is the mother of Whiskey.

Jax is a 9 year old grey Miniature Nubian/Jerusalem donkey. He arrived as a stallion, and when nature called he broke free from his paddock and found Hoops. He is now a gelding. Jax is a beautiful, kind soul who loves attention and standing guard if one of the minis is laying down sleeping. He is the father of Whiskey.

Sweetie is an 18 year old gray Miniature Nubian/Jerusalem donkey. She was surrendered in 2025. She thinks she is a horse because she had never known any other donkeys until she arrived at our Rescue. She is confident, beautiful, and extremely affectionate. Her name is perfect, because there really isn’t a sweeter donkey in the world.

Whiskey is a 5 year old Miniature Jack. He was born at the Rescue. Hoops and Jax are his parents. He is playful, curious, and adorable. He loves to wrestle and play with Jax and Danny Boy, and interacts with the big horses at the fence often.

Danny Boy is a 22-year-old Nubian/Jerusalem Standard Jack. He was surrendered to us with advanced DLSD, affecting the ligaments of his back legs. He is currently receiving treatment and supportive care. He brays comically when it’s time for hay and has the nickname Velcro because he likes to be close. Despite his age and sore legs, he gets the other donkeys running and wrestling.

The Cats
Abby is an orange tabby girl who loves to cuddle with her brother Ernie, climb high in the barn rafters and make a nest in a wheelbarrow full of hay. She was a kitten born from a stray and she was surrendered to the farm from an unwanted pregnancy with her brother, Ernie. She helps the other cats keep the rodents out of the barn.

Ernie is an orange tabby boy who loves to cuddle with his sister Abby. He was a kitten born from a stray and was surrendered to the farm from an unwanted pregnancy with Abby. He likes to sleep in the hay and wander looking for mice to bring home and leave at the barn door.

Ace in an orange and white, long-haired boy who loves attention. He is one of four kittens born at the farm from a stray mama cat. He is not afraid of the horses and is often sauntering through their paddock. Ace is very good at his job of keeping the mice out of the barn.

Blackie is a black and white long-haired tuxedo cat. He was found on the street with a huge infected wound, taken to the ER, and became a resident when owners couldn't be found. He is very friendly and affectionate most of the time! He is very good at his job and keeps the other cats on their toes!

Percy is an adorable, energetic, 12-year old Papillon. He loves to cuddle, go for car rides, and keeps an eager eye on the cats.

Kaylee is a sweet princess, 12-year old Papillon who keeps the boys in line. She likes to follow her mom everywhere, visit her Nanny, play ball, and cuddle.

Rex is a cute and sassy 10-year old Spitz/Pomeranian mix. He has special needs as a result of his life before he came to live at the Rescue.
