Reporting Animal Abuse or Neglect

If you suspect an animal is in distress, please contact the appropriate authorities immediately.

Farm Animals (Horses, Cattle, Goats, etc.)

Farm animal welfare in Nova Scotia is overseen by the Department of Environment and Climate Change under the Nova Scotia Animal Protection Act.

Report Farm Animal Distress:

After hours (critical distress): Contact RCMP or local police.

Farm animals include cattle, horses, sheep, swine, poultry, yaks, goats, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, mules, and other designated agricultural species.

When reporting, provide:

  • Date and time

  • Location (civic address preferred)

  • Number and species of animals

  • Nature and severity of distress

  • Owner’s name (if known)

  • Photos or video if available

Your identity will be kept confidential unless required by the courts.
